Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that studies the entire system holding the teeth within the jawbones.

Periodontology studies the anatomy and physiology of the marginal periodontium, as well as the diseases that affect it and their treatment.

Periodontal diseases range from mild forms (gingivitis) to advanced forms (periodontitis), which, if untreated, lead to gradual tooth loss.

Treatment depends on the patient's stage. Gingivitis is treated with scaling and professional brushing. Advanced cases are treated in several steps, with modern technologies and the laser, a minimally invasive approach.
